Location: Remote with occasional on-site presence required approximately 4-6 times per year.  On-site option available with a relocation allowance.

Title: Senior Certification Engineer

Description: The Senior Certification Engineer will be responsible for certification engineering functions.  This includes independently reviewing certification applications for the FCC, ISED Canada, MIC Japan, EMC D/RED (EU/UK), OFCA Hong Kong, and IMDA Singapore, managing customer interactions regarding quotations, certification findings, and technical inquiries, supporting the certification team with scheduling and assignment of applications, and assisting with other related activities.

Essential functions:

  • Review certification applications according to national and international standards, associated test measurement procedures, and guidance from regulators and industry associations. This includes but is not limited to managing project execution, issuing certificates, ensuring on-time delivery, and maintaining customer communication.
  • The review of applications will include the following TCB and Notified Body roles and responsibilities: EMC/RF Reviewer, General RF exposure reviewer, SAR reviewer, and Decision on Certification.
  • Identify the rules, regulations, and standards applicable to test and certify products for global market access; ensuring all tests conducted follow the specifications, standards, and test methods including accuracy, reliability, and reproducibility of test results.
  • Ensure the certification body has the required resources, test procedures / SOPs, and test standards to perform certification review per the CB’s scope of accreditation and as quoted to customers.
  • Prepare quotations to ensure customers’ certification needs are met and to address any concerns or questions about the CB’s deliverables.
  • Provide support to customers concerning the applicability of rules and regulations, test standards, test measurement procedures, equipment authorization/certification requirements in wireless, EMC, radio, SAR, telecommunications and electrical product safety for the purpose of pre-compliance testing, final regulatory compliance testing, and approval.
  • Manage the execution of work based on the quoted scope of work by utilizing the company’s operational software (NetSuite).
  • Travel to attend workshops, association meetings, and to visit customers.
  • Collaborate and provide support and resources to both the Certification and Lab teams for related activities, including, but is not limited to, reviewing market surveillance reports and following up with customers and applicants.
  • Assist management in expanding both the Lab and CB’s scope of accreditation and recognition with Accrediting Body and NIST.
  • Work with Marketing to create and update content, manage in-bound leads, attend tradeshows, and support outbound efforts end-to-end.

Education, experience, and competencies required

  • Minimum of 10 years of extensive experience in radio communication, telecommunications, and electromagnetic compatibility, with a strong skill set that includes expertise in EMC, wireless/radio equipment testing, RF exposure/SAR testing, and a thorough understanding of FCC regulations, ISED Canada standards, MIC Japan standards and laws, as well as EU/ETSI standards.
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or equivalent.
  • Professional and organized.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

Desired Skills / Qualifications

  • Graduate, postgraduate or advanced degree in EMC, iNARTE - Certified EMC Technician or Engineer, and attendance of qualified FCC-ISED/TCB Council training/workshops.
